Situation of
human rights of Rohingya
Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar

The present report is prepared pursuant to Human Rights Council resolutions 56/1 and 62/3 and it presents findings based on the monitoring and verification activities conducted by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the implementation of the recommendations made by the independent international fact-finding mission on Myanmar, including those on accountability, and on progress in the situation of human rights in Myanmar, including of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities.
One particularly striking aspect in the report is the human rights impact of illicit mining, especially rare earth mining. Rare earth elements are essential to a wide range of industries and technologies that underpin the global economy, from electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies to advanced military equipment and fighter jets. Chapter V, “Human Rights Impact of Rare Earth Mining,” on page 8 of the report, examines the severe environmental and human rights consequences associated with these mining activities.

A new report by Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW) reveals the devastating impact of Myanmar's military attacks in Kachin State.
Only in Kachin state alone, nearly 250,000 people have been displaced, while more than 130 civilians, including 7 children, were killed in 2025. The report also documents repeated airstrikes, widespread destruction, and a worsening humanitarian crisis. The report also highlights the junta's aggressive offensive in Bhamo, where up to 50 airstrikes are carried out each day, alongside widespread destruction and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

For Patrick Hoffmann (GSM), standing with Myanmar is deeply connected to his own family history. Growing up with the stories of his Jewish family surviving Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, he learned that democracy is fragile and that the consequences of silence can be devastating. These experiences shaped his belief that “Never Again” is not only a lesson from history, but a responsibility for the present.

Freundliche Erinnerung_Gebetstreffen zu Ehren des 81.Geburtstags von Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

Im Juni 2026 werden sich myanmarische Gemeinschaften und Unterstützer in ganz Deutschland versammeln, um den 81. Geburtstag von Daw Aung San Suu Kyi mit einer Reihe von Gebetsveranstaltungen in München, Berlin, Köln und Frankfurt am Main zu begehen.
In Zeiten politischer Unterdrückung und humanitärer Krisen in Myanmar bieten diese Veranstaltungen Gelegenheit zur Besinnung und Solidarität. Sie erinnern zudem daran, dass viele politische Gefangene, darunter auch Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, nach wie vor in den berüchtigten Gefängnissen des Landes inhaftiert sind.
Die folgenden Veranstaltungen werden von engagierten lokalen Gruppen der myanmarischen Diaspora organisiert und stehen allen offen, die das Volk von Myanmar und dessen Bestrebungen nach Demokratie, Frieden und Menschenwürde unterstützen möchten.

Gatherings in Germany to Honor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 81st Birthday
In June 2026, Myanmar communities and supporters across Germany will come together to mark the 81st birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi through a series of prayer gatherings in Munich, Berlin, Cologne, and Frankfurt am Main.
In the times of political repression and humanitarian crisis of Myanmar, these gatherings offer an opportunity for reflection and solidarity. They are also a reminder that many political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, remain in the notorious prisons inside the country.
The following events are being organized by dedicated local Myanmar diaspora groups and are open to everyone who would like to support for the people of Myanmar and their aspirations for democracy, peace, and human dignity.

Hopes and fears of a deprived minority in times of forced conscription in Myanmar

Myanmar has been unstable and chaotic since the day the military staged another Coup d’état in 2021. Violence, violations of human rights, and severe political and socio-economic crises have increasingly been beset by armed conflicts. Although the military tried to control all sectors of society and the whole country, armed resistance groups have seized more and more territory. That’s why General Min Aung Hlaing activated a dormant conscription law on 10 February 2024, making all young men and women (men aged 18 to 35 and women aged 18 to 27) across the country eligible for compulsory military service for at least 2 years. 2As of April 2026, almost 120,000 individuals have been drafted under repressive Conscription law, with the quota of 5,000 conscripts per each batch.3Those who evade military service, or help others to evade it, are subject to up to five years in prison. As a consequence, many young people, mostly young men, have fled abroad or to areas beyond the junta’s control to avoid having to fight for the widely hated regime.
